Merumaya Treatment Toner: I Am Converted

MERUMAYA tonerI have not been a fan of toners. Don’t know why… I think I reckoned that they were unnecessary, that my cleansing regime was just fine, thanks, and that I didn’t need anything else pre-night serum/cream.

Wellllllll — I’ve changed my mind. I like Merumaya’s Treatment Toner loads, and I wouldn’t be without it now. {If nothing else, using it shows me if I’ve done a proper job cleansing.}{Which, sadly, I mostly do not, but that’s another post waiting to happen.}{NOT that I’m using this to cleanse because that is, of course, a no-no!}

I found this great for my pores, which I am not angsting over all that much, but am happy enough to keep shrunken. I’m also happy with the hydrating feeling I get when I use it, and the way it interacts with the brand’s Iconic Youth Serum — my skin feels like silk after using them both, and more importantly, it still feels that way upon waking.

I Used It — Them! — All Up: A Head-to-Toe Miscellany from Lancôme, Dermalogica, Pixy Natural, and Merumaya

I turfed through loads of stuff this week — and it took me long enough. It is with some sadness that I present what I have used all up, because I was hoarding all of these. It had to be done, though, and all came in especially useful in recent times.

Trust me, this one is all used up, barring jabbing the top of it open with an awl, or something:
LANCOME BI-FACIL
I mean, that’s not even one eye’s worth of make up remover. Au revoir, LANCÔME Non Oily Instant Cleanser for Sensitive Eyes {€28.50} — je t’aime pour toujours. This removes the smokiest of the smoky eye, and doesn’t make my vision all vaseline-y up, like some equally effective but oil-based removers can do.

DERMALOGICA MINERAL SALTS
I had been hoarding this stuff forever. Initially, I found the scent of DERMALOGICA’S hydro-active mineral salts {€31.50} to be a bit pong-y, and who knows, it may have been my own sense of smell that needed adjusting. Or I just got used to it. I don’t know! But I needed it bad these past few weeks, first as I was recovering from an injury sustained from horseriding, and then I needed the even badder to recover from going back horseriding.

This sea salt concoction is stuffed full of relaxing essential oils, including lavender, clary sage, and cinnamon, amongst many. Bonus: my skin felt like silk, in addition to my muscles being completely soothed.

Speaking of lavender, here’s PIXY NATURAL’s Lavender Bath Bomb {€3.45}. Well, duh, it got used all up, you may be thinking. No, not so ‘duh’, as I have tried bombs in the past that fizzled out juuust before having totally dissolved, leaving me with a freaky moonrock lookin’ thing that, funnily enough, disintegrated when I let it dry out, to try to use it a second time.

This fizzes all the pieces, in the best possible sense. It’s got little bits of actual lavender in it, and I turned to this relaxing little thing when I’d used up the Dermalogica salts, and I wasn’t sorry.

There’s the plastic wrap this comes in, and then another round of wrap, which I didn’t discover until I was in the bath, ready to drop the bomb, as it were, and had to fumble with wet fingers to liberate it. Just so ya know.

Goodbye, Merumaya Intergrative Effective Skincare, in more ways than one…

This was another thing for which the scent was an acquired taste, but once I got into it, I loved it. The brand have an extensive line, and this, their Iconic Youth Serum {£34.50}, was like rubbing velvet and angel feathers all over my face. I found this to be notably effective when used at night, as I awoke radiant.

MalekaRecently launched in Arnotts, Merumaya Integrative Effective Skin Care is the brainchild of Maleka Dattu. Part of the team that grew the Clinique brand into the number one spot in the UK, she began working in beauty at the age of seventeen, moving through field sales, training, marketing, communications, new product development, and general management. The Cosmetic Executive Women’s Achiever of the Year in 2006, after twenty seen years in the business, Maleka decided to follow the dream, and developed her own brand.

Maleka is a charismatic speaker, and in many of her answers, gets straight to the point — the bullet point, to be precise!

What’s the first product you remember using, the one that has always stayed with you?
The first skincare range my mother bought me was from Avon — the entire range of six products for problem skin. I felt so grown up, so indulged especially because my Mum spent more on my skincare than her own. My second influence was working with Sothys Paris skincare, and their ampoules of concentrated product. That could be where my instinct for creating effective, active products came from.

Had spearheading your own brand always been a dream?
Yes. I always wanted to have my own business and it was always going to be in beauty. My whole working life has been in beauty and I still get a thrill from it every single day.

What was the first question you asked yourself when you were brainstorming the Merumaya brand? What were the defining characteristics that you wanted Merumaya to bring to the market?

> What makes it better than other brands?
> What do customers want from skincare?

I had flip charts up on one entire wall all headed with different topics such as; active ingredients, product line up, tag line, distribution, positioning, customer benefits, packaging, brand design, as shown here!

What would be your best advice for someone wanting to start in the beauty biz— not only as a career move, but also someone wanting to start their own business?
>Be prepared to go the extra mile in every instance.
>Take on a mantra such as “‘It will do’ will never do.”
>Build good relationships.
>Be customer focused and retail oriented (vs. wholesale).
>Keep in touch with the customer and your front line sales team.
>If starting a business: allocate resources towards the customer facing initiatives. Underestimate sales and overestimate expenses so you have a buffer.
>Make sure your cash flow works and have plenty of funds available.

I am loving the Melting Cleansing Balm! Why is this a good, if not better option, for cleansing the skin, and what is different about its formula?
It is not waxy, therefore it’s easy to apply and easy to remove. You can do a double cleanse with MCB as quickly as one cleanse with a waxy formula. It is a superb formula with Sweet Almond and Echium oils, MERUMAYA Cleansing Balmand mangosteen for anti-oxidant properties. The scent makes you feel fabulous, and your skin feels soft and velvety after use. It is in a tube so portable and easy to use. You can use without the Daily Cleansing Cloths {€15.50} if you wish — I recommend with! It is a fantastic price and a little goes a long way. It is thorough and yet, gentle, and takes the chore out of cleansing, and puts some pleasure back in. What more do you need?

Any special tips for use?
If you wear face make up, double cleanse at night. The first cleanse removes your make up, and the second cleans the skin underneath the makeup. Enjoy cleansing: it is a cornerstone to vibrant, healthy looking skin. Last tip is: tell all your MERUMAYA Iconic Youth Serumfriends about it!
